People Who've Switched to LANTUS® Have Their Own Stories of Success

As you read the stories of people who have successfully switched from NPH insulin (Humulin® N or Novolin® N) or Premix to LANTUS®, remember that LANTUS® has been shown to significantly lower A1C numbers as part of an overall diabetes treatment, including diet, exercise, pills and/or mealtime insulin.

LANTUS® helped control my blood sugar for 24 hours

Using 70/30 or 75/25 insulins did not fit my daily schedule and I had high or low blood sugars. It is so nice to give myself one shot a day at the same time each day that helps control my blood sugar for 24 hours. I do use a fast-acting insulin at least twice a day with my meals. I have better blood sugar control now. I no longer think of diabetes as a miserable disease. I now see diabetes as manageable.

Getting excellent blood sugar levels

I am 83 years old, and I have diabetes. I took oral medication before taking insulin shots in 1991. My blood sugar readings have never been as good as they are now with LANTUS® as part of my therapy. I take a fast-acting insulin in the morning before breakfast, and I take LANTUS® at night.

Before LANTUS®, I took insulin both in the morning and at night, and my blood sugar levels were still between 190 and 210. I am so thankful for LANTUS®. My doctor is proud of me.

Diabetes patient switched from 70/30 insulin to LANTUS®

I have had diabetes for 10 years, with constant uncontrolled blood sugars. I had been taking 70/30 insulin, but was still not in control of my blood sugar. My doctor suggested I change to LANTUS® in addition to other insulin(s). With the help of LANTUS® my blood sugars are now in control, and my A1C level has improved over the past 13 months. Thank you, sanofi-aventis.

Daughter's injection schedule now works around her

My daughter Marisa is a freshman in college, majoring in Pharmacy - and she has diabetes. This is the first time I had "no control" of her. It kills you to let them grow up! I think her understanding of her disease has come with age. She was on pork insulin for 10 years. She was getting up early and had to be on an injection schedule. Her endocrinologist recommended LANTUS® as part of her diabetes therapy. Now, her injection schedule works around her. We are thankful for LANTUS®.

On behalf of granddaughter, thankful for LANTUS® and blood sugar level control

My granddaughter is 9 years old and has had diabetes for 2 ½ years. It became very difficult to control her blood sugar levels, so we began a strict eating and insulin regimen. We counted carbs and made sure she consumed very little sugar, but nothing worked. Although we did everything we thought we could do, we still could not regulate her blood sugar levels. Nothing seemed to work.

I heard about LANTUS® and asked the doctor if we could try it. He agreed, and once we found the appropriate dosage, LANTUS® (as part of her diabetes regimen) has helped us control my granddaughter's blood sugar levels. We're so thankful for LANTUS®!

Glad he was made aware of LANTUS® after 10 years of 70/30 insulin

I developed diabetes at age 42 in 1992. I was prescribed 70/30 insulin, which I took for 10 years. Taking 55 units twice a day, I still was unable to achieve good blood sugar control; in fact, my levels were quite unpredictable. In May 2002, I was referred to an endocrinology clinic and prescribed LANTUS® in conjunction with an oral diabetes medication. Forty-two units of LANTUS® once a day in combination with an oral diabetes medication, has helped me achieve the best control I have ever had. The improvement has been dramatic. LANTUS® works for me, and I am so glad I was made aware of it.

Important Safety Information for Lantus®

Prescription Lantus® is for adults with type 2 diabetes or adults and children (6 years and older) with type 1 diabetes who require long-acting insulin for the control of high blood sugar.

Lantus® SoloSTAR® is a disposable insulin delivery device (insulin pen). Needles and the SoloSTAR® pen must not be shared.

DO NOT DILUTE OR MIX LANTUS® WITH ANY OTHER INSULIN OR SOLUTION. It will not work as intended, and you may lose blood sugar control, which could be serious. Do not change your insulin without talking with your doctor. The syringe must not contain any other medication or residue. You should not use Lantus® if you are allergic to insulin. Lantus® is a long-acting insulin you inject just once a day, at the same time each day. You must test your blood sugar levels while using an insulin such as Lantus®.

The most common side effect of insulin, including Lantus®, is hypoglycemia, which may be serious. Other possible side effects may include injection site reactions, including changes in fat tissue at the injection site, and allergic reactions, including itching and rash. In rare cases, some allergic reactions may be life threatening. Tell your doctor about other medicines and supplements you are taking because they can change the way insulin works.

In clinical studies in adult patients, there was a higher incidence of injection site pain (2.7% vs. 0.7%) among insulin glargine patients compared with NPH human insulin. The reports were usually mild and did not result in discontinuation of therapy.
