Caring for Your LANTUS® SoloSTAR® Insulin Pen
Following these few straightforward steps can help maintain the quality of your LANTUS® SoloSTAR® pen.
To help ensure an accurate dose each time, follow all steps in the Instruction Leaflet
that comes with your pen. Otherwise, you may not get the correct amount of insulin,
which may affect your blood sugar levels.
Before you use the LANTUS® SoloSTAR® pen:
- Keep your unopened pen(s) in the refrigerator, in their outer package
- Don't put them next to the freezer or near a freezer pack—frost will damage the
insulin
- Before you inject with a pen, remove it from the refrigerator for an hour or two—cold
insulin can be more painful to inject
After you open the LANTUS® SoloSTAR® pen:
- Don't refrigerate it
- Use it for up to 28 days
- Store it safely at room temperature (below 86°F)
- Don't leave it anywhere it might overheat such as a car parked in sunlight, on a
windowsill, or near a radiator
- Keep the pen away from direct light or heat
- After 28 days, throw it away—even if it still has insulin in it
- Occasionally clean pen with a damp cloth. Do not run it under water, use soap, or
cleaning solutions
Other important information:
- Don't use it after the expiration date printed on the label or carton
- Always keep at least one spare LANTUS® SoloSTAR® pen in case your current
one is lost or damaged
- Do not mix LANTUS® with any other insulin
- Do not share needles or insulin pens with others

The most common side effect of insulin, including Lantus®, is low blood

symptoms such as shaking, sweating, fast heartbeat, and blurred vision. Severe hypoglycemia
may be serious and life threatening. It may cause harm to your heart or brain. Other
possible side effects may include injection site reactions, including changes in
